POSTAL VOTES ARE OUT

by annemariecookelibdemlindfield on 20 April, 2021

It is such an amazing feeling when out campaigning to be told by someone that they have already voted for you by post! Definitely motivation to press on just that little bit longer and harder to reach as many potential voters as possible.

Out in the Langmore Lane area of Lindfield yesterday this happened on several occasions and made our coffee break even more a pleasure afterwards!

Heathwood Park, Langmore Lane, Lindfield, socially distanced, own cups coffee break! thanks for the photos and helping Peter. Thanks for helping Stephanie Inglesfield, see you soon in Haywards Heath for canvassing in your division, Haywards Heath Town!

Below is the letter we have been distributing to postal voters over the last few days:

Dear postal voter,

Your postal vote ballot form will be arriving in the next few days. I am writing to ask you to vote for me to represent Lindfield and the High Weald and to give the Liberal Democrats a stronger voice on the county council.

I have lived and brought up my family here for 24 years and would be honoured for the opportunity to represent our area and to use my extensive local knowledge and business experience to bring better results in terms of value for money from our council taxes, and to provide the services that our communities need and deserve.

Since the last County Council elections in 2017, the Conservative administration’s incompetence has cost us all dearly.

• In 2019, the Fire and Rescue Service was found to be inadequate by HM Inspector. The resulting rescue plan cost £5 million.

• Children’s Services were found to be so inadequate by Government Inspectors in 2019 that an external Commissioner was appointed to oversee services. The rescue plan for this cost £17 million.

• A mismanaged highways maintenance contract resulted in the County Council being taken to court, where it was ordered to pay £4 million in compensation. This money could have been used to see our services protected.

Instead the Conservatives are planning cuts and closures. The majority of Family and Children’s Centres will be closed, and ‘Find It Out’ Youth Centres are scheduled for closure in October. Day Centres for the elderly and people with learning disabilities are next in line.

These are vital services and our community will be much poorer if they are cut. If you elect me you can be assured that as a long standing resident I would always be genuinely seeking the best for our village communities and ensure that we are heard while so remote from decision making in Chichester.
